The Feldenkrais Method®

The Feldenkrais Method uses small gentle movements of the skeleton to help you become aware of your movement habits and explore options to improve flexibility  and ease of movement.

In our culture of sitting and small repetitive movements, many people develop muscular holding patterns, which can lead to reduction in movement, aches and pains, and eventually illness or injury.
People who have been subject to surgery, prolonged illness or stress also often have residual tension, which interferes with everyday functioning.
Research is also confirming what Dr Feldenkrais taught 50 years ago - that the human brain is constantly capable of learning. Neuroplasticy is the buzz word around those working with people recovering from strokes, brain injury and cerebral palsy.

During an individual consultation, you would normally lie fully clothed on a low padded table while the Practitioner uses small gentle movements to assist you in exploring your existing patterns. You will release limiting holding patterns and discover new, more comfortable and efficient ways of moving.

Awareness through Movement® lessons are mostly done lying on a mat on the floor. You will be directed by the practitioner through a series of small, slow, gentle movements, paying attention to the effects they have on other parts of your body. This will allow you to become aware of habitual patterns and find new options for moving with ease comfort and efficiency.
